Because Peter and I went to bed earlier last night, we had a great and sound sleep and handled to wake up quite early on the subsequent day. We had a great breakfast in our London flat terrace and after a pair of cups of hot espresso we went to the Oxford Street, at the Westminster district. I have to say that i am very happy that my husband loves shopping, since I realize most of other guys dislike that.
Thus, along with Peter together, we visited numerous key department retailers, in addition to brand stores. We spent most time in Selfridges – the second largest store in the UK, and Marks & Spencer retailer shop where we bought some clothes. Peter also went to the large Nike store, whilst I examined the new collection of Zara.
With hands full with bags we took the subway to our London vacation flat, where we had a short nap and a bath. In the early afternoon we went to see the St. Paul’s Cathedral that was near to the holiday residence in London and after that headed towards the Hyde Park where we enjoyed the entire afternoon, as it was too hot to go on sightseeing tours.
The last evening in London was very relaxing. Peter found a little and really intimate restaurant, where we had a meal and a few glasses of wine. Following that we went for a stroll along the south bank of the Thames River. It proved this is quite a nice place after dark with lots of street entertainers, traditional pubs and cafes. The area is also great for making photos, which we did and for relaxation and contemplating the river and the party boats floating by. Then we crossed the river using the Tower Bridge and took the metro back to our London holiday residence.
We enjoyed a fantastic sleep at our London apartment and on the next morning Peter woke me up with a light bite and a very hot cup of tea and we managed to make plans for the remainder of the day. We had a good map and made a pleasant walk to the British Museum, where we decided to be our first stop. This museum absolutely astonished me with its outstanding number of objects. Peter read that there were exhibited at least seven mil art pieces that come from all continents. He loved most the initial reading room, which is today surrounded by the Great Court. We devote quality time in all of the sections in the British Museum and my favourite one became the Department of Africa, Oceania and Americas, while Peter liked most the Department of Ancient Egypt and Sudan. Given that it was already lunchtime, we ate at the museum canteen and the meal was good and at a fair price.
After lunch we headed towards the National Gallery, which is placed at the Trafalgar Square, next to the Nelson’s column with its four lions at its base. Just before stepping into the gallery we made some photos of the monument of this fantastic soldier. Peter said that it is right here that local people celebrate the New Year’s Eve and assured me that we will return one day to be a part of this party as well.
At the National Gallery we discovered paintings from amazing painters for instance Cezanne, Giotto, Velazquez, Titian, etc. Peter proposed we should buy several souvenirs for close friends and loved ones from the gallery’s store and we did so, which got to be a fantastic idea, as later on everyone loved the gift.
The final stop for the day was the Tate Gallery, where we observed some modern art pieces. The day was quite long and tiring, therefore we spend the night in our London holiday property and went out only for a brief walk soon after dinner prepared by me.
After Peter offered me a ring in Athens last year, I had no clue that things will move forward that soon and I appeared to be very astounded once he informed me that he would like us to organize the wedding once doable, with no any delay. Thus, we started coordinating the wedding and I devoted some days planning the honeymoon as well, because Peter was extremely busy with work. As soon as I suggested London as our first family holiday break, he said this isn’t the common romantic getaway, however when we went there he was proven to be wrong.
I love to visit London, as I adore its modern atmosphere, the good attitude of the locals, the great sites and the active cultural life. That was my 3rd time in the capital of the UK, but very first for my husband Peter. Just as we arrived at our London flat and unpacked our suitcases, we had a quick rest and headed for a stroll. We had a number of days and nights to spend here, so we weren’t in a hurry. That first day I brought Peter to the Tower of London, one of the major attractions of the city, placed at the northern side of Thames River. We needed an hour and a half to look at the exhibit there and make photos, then we went out, bought fish’n’chips with draught beer and sat on a bench, eating and contemplating the Tower Bridge, which I find the most amazing sights in this large city.
Peter loved it in London and particularly liked our walk down to the Big Ben and the Westminster Abbey. As we were very exhausted after that long walk we made, we took the metro and went back to our London city holiday apartment where we had the opportunity to take a long sleep and a shower, before we went out for a nice meal in the area, as well as a stop by to the London Eye where we saw the city flooded with lights from above.
We were residing in a nice and completely set Edinburgh apartment placed in the center of the Scottish capital and my spouse often made the breakfast, yet throughout the day we were outside and little ones wanted to test the fast-food available. Not surprisingly my spouse was against this and actually me too, as we insist on feeding our kids with eco-friendly and organic food, therefore we did our best to buy them vegetables and fruits as well and therefore to compensate the sandwiches bought on the street.
We definitely avoided the dining places down the centre, the Grassmarket area and the Royal Castle, because we have read they could be really pricey because they are oriented right to the holidaymakers, but we loved to have dinner out in the West End area and the Leith area. In the evenings we generally visited the cafes along the pedestrian Rose Street that is going parallel to the Princes Street and which offers a lot of cafes offering fantastic meals. All these bars were additionally close to our Edinburgh holiday apartment too and this made the walk home easy and fast, which helped when the children were tired and dropping off to sleep in our hands.
We often ordered fish and chips, deep fried pizza which is a true Scottish delight. I was into the Black Pudding that is deep fried and goes well with draught beer, while my wife preferred the haggis meal, also deep fried.
Needless to say, I wished to go to a pub or two, but with the children this was not possible to do. So, I purchased a lot of beer from the supermarket, stored it in the fridge and with my wife we enjoyed a few drinks on the terrace of our Edinburgh property soon after the kids when to bed.
Following the festive days, I has been joined by my wife and children and we all got accommodated in a bigger Edinburgh short stay apartment, again set in the downtown area of the destination and providing much more facilities and bonuses than the studio apartment in Edinburgh I had been renting throughout the festival.
That was the very first time my wife and I took the children with us and I was afraid they shall be bored, yet actually it ended up that the Scottish main city is a excellent location for children, since it is simple to explore and has many points of interest and entertainment places to keep them busy.
Throughout our family vacation we were taking it slow, got lots of rest, wonderful breakfasts in our holiday apartment in Edinburgh and also had lots of hours to take pleasure from the points of interest. The spots we brought our kids to included the Royal Mile, where our kids run around the walkways in between the Holyroodhouse Palace and the Castle which they loved to examine. Another landmark they liked a lot was the Arthur’s Seat, where we made an open-air meal with the snacks my spouse prepared and spend some time contemplating the nature and the town beneath.
On another day we visited the Camera Obscura at the Outlook Tower, where the boys liked the periscope and searched for the points of interest around Edinburgh. The same day there was rain in the afternoon and we spent it at the Museum of Childhood where the kids were pleased by the antique games and gadgets.
The last 2 days we had in the city we spent in the Edinburgh Zoo, which is out of the centre but still easy to get at from our Edinburgh vacation apartment and in the Princes Street Gardens where the kids had so much space to run and play at.
I adore fairs and for that reason Edinburgh is the city I adore. The very first time that I have been to it was a few years ago, after that I haven’t missed a summer. This year I went for the Edinburgh International Book Festival in August and as usual I accommodated myself in an Edinburgh vacation apartment I have picked several months ago, as I knew the organization of the holiday accommodation throughout the festival days was not achievable.
My vacation suite in Edinburgh was positioned in the centre, close to all tourist destinations and the specific zones where the festive days happened. I was curious to learn about the new literature styles and to listen to excerpts from books that were meant to be bestsellers. The workshops were quite interesting also, but most of my free hours were spent in the massive bookselling tent where I acquired several books from the creators presented on the event and then waited for signing tables to exchange some words with the writers I was mostly astounded by.
Right after a short sleep and a dinner in my Edinburgh residential home, I was ready to enjoy my most favorite time of the day and to get a pint at the Spiegeltent, where I took part in the open conversations throughout which I usually met many new friends.
Another celebration I like to visit is the Edinburgh Fringe Festival that is the greatest alternative performances event in the world, which celebrates art and songs. This festival could be attended by every person who wants to present oneself and one’s art. The art performances are being organized in all theatres in the city, but as the participants are many these events might be organized in clubs, halls, etc. Throughout the Fringe Festival there are also many free shows and exhibitions, which I love to see also.
Our final day in Amsterdam started well, since we woke up earlier and went for a breakfast and coffee in the nearby cafe that was a second aside from our Amsterdam apartment. Then Michelle suggested we need to visit on a specific trip, known here as Walking Over Water Tour, that took more than 3 hours. That trip was worth it, as we watched the old center of Amsterdam with the leaning residences and the sea dikes, and after that we went towards hidden monasteries and the lost city walls. I was excited by the execution sites which were once used, while Michelle was amazed by the Red Light District in which we saw a few girls placed on show in store windows. At midday we had a light lunch at one of the many small places to eat along one of the lovely canals and we tested out a new local kind of draught beer which was very good but I forgot its brand.
In the afternoon we returned to our Amsterdam vacation flat, because it was very hot to keep outdoors. Right after that we went to check out the Maritime Museum and the oldest cathedral in the city – Oude Kerk, however we kept the windmills De Otter and De Gooyer for the following day, prior to our trip.
Later on on our final evening in the main city of the Netherlands, we visited an elegant restaurant that attracted us with its fluorescents lighting and interesting indicators. The food was great and so was the wine, that set us into the mood of going to a club. Michelle liked the modern atmosphere of that place and I was astonished by the friendliness of all these people. We had a few beers and cocktails and enjoyed the music. Late at night we went back to our vacation apartment in Amsterdam and went to sleep immediately.
Thanks to Michelle I got up the following morning by the scent of a very hot cup of espresso and a healthy breakfast, which she created in the kitchen area of our equipped Amsterdam apartment. That helped me a great deal, since I had several ales the evening before and to be frank, I am not used to that much alocohol consumption.
Michelle had organized this day for seeing the Amsterdam galleries and we headed in the direction of our very first stop – the great Rijksmuseum, being the national museum of the state. The following stop on the list was the specific Van Gogh Museum that keeps the biggest selection of art works on the earth from this great painter. This took place to be my place in the city, however Michelle liked most the Amsterdam Tulip Museum with its media presentations presenting the historical past of the tulip, that was in close proximity to the House of Anne Frank which we went to prior to that. The final place we came across was the Sexmuseum.
I become really worn out from visiting museums and galleries, thus I really appreciated the meal which we ate in one of the little restaurants near the Van Gogh Museum. Immediately after the long day I was genuinely pleased to return to the Amsterdam vacation apartment in which we had a very good and sound sleep. As we woke up, I offered Michelle to visit a cozy cafe near a canal nearby, in which we had a typical local dinner and enjoyed some draught beer. We concluded that Amsterdam is among the most spectacular and passionate spots on the continent and is also a city of diversity and tolerance. We were looking at all those joyful people, driving their bikes, going in and out of cafes and discussing everyday issues and in a way we felt as part of this. I think at that moment we fell in love with the city and promised to return when we can.
Michelle and I were lovers for 12 months by that moment but have not been on a true holiday. As a result, for our 1 year event I wanted to surprise her and acquired tickets for us for Amsterdam. Prior to accomplishing that I prepared a research and discovered Michelle has not been there but the main city of the Netherlands was included in her list with desired destinations.
Just as I expected, she was very excited and she could not cease laughing and planning all through the dinner we had in one of the adjoining eateries. The second we went home she began searching the internet and soon she presented me a listing of moderately charged Amsterdam flats for rental, which had good key position and were absolutely furnished and fixed. We picked one that most appealed to us with regard to setting, inner surface and price and filled in the booking form. The next morning we had a confirmation and began creating our sightseeing and tour plan.
The town welcomed us sun-drenched and pleasant and we found our Amsterdam holiday flat very easily. The moment we left the bags, Michelle took the map and we went for a short walk along the waterways. I may say that the most appealing spot in the main city of Netherlands is the old city, which is established in a kind of a semicircle with 5 waterways and the Main Station. We made numerous pictures in the Rokin and Damark areas and the River Amstel. In fact, equally me and Michelle lost course of time, because we were strolling along the tiny narrow roads and were looking at the historic houses and the little islands, all connected by links. I was surprised how relaxing life is here and we liked that feeling while dining in a little restaurant, properly arranged with flowers. The beer in Amsterdam is excellent and I had a few more than I should have, so we went back to our Amsterdam apartment and instantly dropped off.
