MUSICAL ACTIVITIES
Platform one
Logo by Nigel Taylor
and Dave Coomer
Platform one is a local goth-synthpop-darkwave band in which I was formerly one of three members and sang backing vocals (the lead singer has since gone solo). We performed in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, were broadcast on alternative radio, and appeared on two dark-electronic CD compilations. Platform one's sound is reminiscent of Wolfsheim, Depeche Mode, Clan of Xymox, and The Cure, among others. I provided a redesign of the band's Web site while I was a member which remained in use for nearly 5 years.
Byzantium
Logo by C. H. Low
Byzantium, an "underground" NYC event in the truest sense of the word, was held every Friday night in a stone enclosure below street level. Its environment was Dark-Ages-meets-Arabian-Nights, with a futuristic twist. Amid myriad candles, a built-in waterfall, and pulsating laser lights, visitors enjoyed live and recorded music, belly dancers, poetry and tarot readings, an exotic apparel bazaar, and a variety of drinks and snacks. I progressed from enthusiastic regular to staff member, writing promotional copy, contributing ideas for weekly events, and providing CDs from my personal collection to play there.

MY FAVORITE DECADE IN MUSIC

When taking an '80s rock lyrics quiz online recently, I scored sufficiently high enough that I was, uh, "rewarded" with the following banner to proudly(?) display on my Web site — make of it what you will.   ;-)
